De Kargadoor
🎭Volunteer-Run Cultural Center
De Kargadoor is a volunteer-run cultural and social center located at Oudegracht 36 in the heart of Utrecht's historic canal district. Housed in a characteristic old cargo storage building with an atmospheric cellar venue, it serves as a community hub for diverse artistic and cultural programming just 10 minutes walk from Utrecht Central Station.
The venue hosts regular live music concerts spanning multiple genres. A highlight is the monthly jazz podium on the first Wednesday of each month, where amateur musicians are welcome to perform and join with their own instruments. Music programming includes singer-songwriter concerts, the Werfkelder Sessions (lazy Sunday afternoon music), Night of the Song Poets featuring collaborative musical explorations, and concerts by diverse acts.
Beyond music, De Kargadoor presents comedy shows through Comedyhuis programming, including open mic nights, Comedy Talent Award auditions, and weekly Friday and Saturday comedy shows. The venue also hosts theater performances, debates, workshops, clothing swaps, and social events.
Perfect for: Amateur and emerging musicians looking to perform, jazz lovers seeking intimate sessions, comedy fans, alternative culture enthusiasts, community event organizers, and anyone wanting an accessible grassroots cultural experience in historic Utrecht.
