Cafe Averechts

Café Averechts is a unique volunteer-run café in Utrecht's scenic Vogelenbuurt that has been operated entirely by enthusiastic volunteers for over 40 years. As a concept unique in the Netherlands, all profits from the café support charity causes selected by the volunteers themselves every two months, creating a community-driven space with social purpose.

The venue hosts free live music concerts every Friday evening, featuring intimate performances by local and touring artists across indie, rock, folk, and alternative genres. Thursday evenings feature an open stage where performers of all levels can showcase their talents. Music programming also includes jam sessions, jazz sessions, and DJ nights. Past performers include The Weak and the Strong, JD Meatyard, and VICE VERA.

Beyond music, Café Averechts operates a popular vegetarian/vegan restaurant every Sunday evening, offering three-course dinners for just €15 made with organic ingredients (reservations required). The café features locally brewed craft beers including their own house brews, plus an extensive whisky selection. Regular events include monthly pub quizzes and board game nights. The café is closed Monday and Tuesday but open the rest of the week.
